5 Reasons Human Court Reporters Are Still Critically Important

If you’ve been reading our blog, you know the Georgia court reporters at Gallo Legal Services, LLC have long believed in the idea of embracing technology.  We’ve integrated innovative solutions into our services that offer significant advantages for our clients, and we’ll continue to adopt advancements as they emerge. These advantages make a tangible difference for those who work with us, both in the quality of service we provide and in their bottom-line results.

However, this embrace of technology does not mean that we want to see human court reporters disappear from courtrooms or deposition rooms. We firmly believe that the presence of a skilled individual handling the court reporting duties is extremely important, and we’ll always make sure that one of our Georgia certified court reporters is on the scene and available to cover your requests.

Below are five reasons why we think this way.

1.  The Human Element Matters

People often speak more clearly and behave differently when addressing another person rather than a microphone or recording device. This dynamic directly impacts the clarity and decorum of legal proceedings as most people comport themselves differently when working in the presence of a person.

2.  Clarification

If a video recorder, software, or other AI driven tool is handling the court reporting aspect of a hearing, without human intervention, that piece of technology can not speak up and ask for clarification if an answer is mumbled or otherwise inaudible. Those who review the transcript will simply see ‘indiscernible’ in place of critical content. A human court reporter, however, will respectfully request repetition or clarification to ensure an accurate record.

3.  Technology Problems

If one of our Georgia court reporters is unavailable due to illness, traffic, or unforeseen circumstances, the team at Gallo Legal Services, LLC will will immediately provide an in-person or remote replacement. But if technology fails mid-proceeding, who resolves the issue? Technical malfunctions can derail progress, whereas humans adapt.

4.  Responsibility

The Georgia court reporters at Gallo Legal Services, LLC have always stood behind the work produced for clients. If an error arises, we correct it promptly. However, addressing glitches caused solely by technology during a trial, deposition, or hearing can complicate accountability and resolution potentially affecting the outcome of a case.

5.  Not Mutually Exclusive

It’s our belief that using technology should augment the human aspect of our court reporting service instead of replacing it. It’s true that the presence of technology improves how we deliver our transcripts.  These two elements are not mutually exclusive, but rather serve to help each other.
