Tips to Follow: Avoiding Mistakes That Can Ruin a Transcript

During a deposition, it is crucial to articulate clearly in order to void a sloppy transcript.

Below are three tips to follow in order to avoid ruining a transcript:

  1. Do not speak too low or too fast: By doing so, it will make it difficult for the Court Reporter to take it down due to be unable to clearly hear every word being spoken.
  2. False Starts: Do not stop mid-sentence while asking a question, it will cause the transcript to appear choppy on paper.
  3. Speak one at a time: If everyone involved in the deposition is speaking over each other, the Court Reporter will not be able to take down everything that is being said.
