The Violence Against Women Act of 1994 is a U.S. Federal Law and was originally signed by President Clinton on September 13th, 1994.

The VAWA provided $1.6 billion dollars towards the investigation and prosecution of violent crimes made towards women and allowed to readdress cases where civilians who committed crimes and were not prosecuted.

On March 7th, 2013, President Obama signed the VAWA of 2013, ultimately reauthorizing it, which then the act would include not just women, but the LGBT community, Immigrants, and Native Americans.
